Companies " Contact Us" via email process - henry k
Quite a few company web sites have a " contact Us" option.
IMO they are not very customer orientated, now there is a surprise!
Fill in the boxes and off it goes into cyber space.
I may be able to take a screen dump of my text as evidence but I guess it is a CYA that I do not get a proper email copy. That might be useful when the company fails to respond or screw things up.

I have just sent a minor moan to Kenco of Coffee fame.
I did have the option of snail mail to " The Kenco Coffee Company" blah blah blah. at Uxbridge

I have just received an email from Mondelez UK.
It nearly got binned as I do not know the organisation.

I opened the email

" Dear Mondelez/ Cadbury customer....
Thank you for your E-mail. We are receiving a high volume of contacts at the moment. Please be assured that your communication is receiving our attention, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Your case number is S-nnnnnnn.

Please do not reply to this E-mail.

Mondelez & Cadbury UK Consumer Services

I wonder which stone these types live under?
From the address ( Uxbridge ) I assume is some back office/ automated system handling emails.
Is it rocket science to transfer my name ( no optional) from my email to the response?
And reply from Kenco ( Mondelez......) ?

This is one of the worst examples of non customer service responses I have seen.

I wonder who will answer if I phone their " careline" ?

Rant over.
Do others suffer this sort of company rather than customer care situation.

Now I must get back to composing a stropogram to the board of a chain of estate agents. :-)

Yee-hah....there's two of us.

Do you mind if I print out your post and show the missus, to prove I'm not alone.

Classic one a couple of years back, mate of mine fills in one of the usual long, messy web based job application forms, within 10 minutes he gets a canned email response "after careful consideration we don't think you're suitable".....blah blah If that's careful consideration I shudder to think what they'd consider a quick decision.

When I retired 2 years back, I started looking for jobs..and some of them were in the public sector.

A good mate of mine knew someone well, who was fairly senior in a public sector outfit...and they were looking for an office manager...so, my mate rang him and put me on the phone.

We discussed whether the role was suitable for me and vice versa...and seemingly I would be an ideal candidate...and would I apply?

So I did.

It took me many hours, if not days to sod about with a god awful on-line application. There were times when I had to get my missus to read stuff and give another perspective, as I genuinely did not know what they meant...so off it went....and...I failed at the first hurdle.

The manager chap even rang my mate to ask if I'd put my application in! Then later apologised, because his HR dept had paper sifted me without it even getting to him.

God alone knows what criteria they were using. Obviously not the same ones as the bloke who would have been managing me was using.

The only way to get a job, or the bit of bumf to let you into a conference, is through the old persons' network (they aren't all boys).

Any attempt at filling in an 'online application form' is doomed to fail owing to the endemic cretinism and illiteracy of IT and its specialists. You can't get it right because it can't be got right by any means.

Which is precisely what is wrong with "Camerons" idea that every home in the U.K. should have a computer! - the D.W.P rely almost entirely on "E-Applications" for their "Job Search Club" scheme, that almost all Job-Search Benefit Claimants have to rigorously endure, day in day out, knowing that it is an absolute waste of tax-payers time and money.
Look on Face-Tweet or other such networking sites at the basic standard of todays youths command of the written word! - If I had been a Teacher of some of them I would be ashamed of myself that that was the result I had turned out.
Its no wonder Companies "Auto-bin" most E-Applicants!

Basically a good idea but what about the cost of not just the initial outlay for kit ?
The on going costs are significant for many. Web access, cartridges for the printer, yearly anti virus costs etc.

Fat chance until there is a PC that provides the real basics that " simple" folk can cope with.
The geeks keep adding loads of stuff that has to be waded through to get at the basics.

I am afraid to is now one generation beyond that :-(

Some of the Companies are in the same league; I had a job description emailed to me by an agent the other day. The first sentence was mutually contradictory with the second, there were two spelling mistakes in the next sentence. The follow up was a common classic, the job title was 'Principle Engineer' - and yes was of the required attributes was excellent attention to detail!

You are absolutely right AC.

I tried for a job within the court system...their application system was absolutely unreal... it consisted of an on-line set up whereby you had to put various statements in an order of priority.... trouble was, 'none of them' was sometimes an answer that you needed, but it didn't exist..or.. they were so vague and unrealistic, you didn't know which one to put before the other and/or the last ones were so bad, you didn't want to put them at all, but had no choice.

About a year later, in a social setting, I spoke with a lady who was a manager in the courts system...and she laughed when I mentioned the difficulty I had..and said her and her colleagues had tried the thing themselves..and all failed miserably..despite being current and successful employees, some in significant management grades.

Who on earth thinks that is a good system?

Tits.

There's a reason most companies use web forms to email them. When I worked for the BBC an alarming percentage of all emails either required more information, ie complaining about TV reception and not saying where the complainant is, or in fact, were on points fully answered by either the FAQ or another page on the website.

My recent message to Amazon via their 'contact us' (which is well buried under a lot of blather masquerading as FAQs) after they "enhanced" Prime, and put the price up £30 without the option:

Dear Amazon

You should know why I will not renew my Prime membership when it expires in January 2015.

I have no need of video streaming and in any case my broadband speed is too low. Therefore I will not pay an extra £30 a year for nothing.

As a loyal customer and advocate, I am offended by your abuse of your customer relationships.

Yours sincerely

A. Dugong

And its reply:

Hello,

I'm sorry you’re not happy with the changes that we’ve made to Amazon Prime.

I have now passed your message on to the appropriate department who will be glad to review your feedback.

This kind of feedback is invaluable to us, as it helps us continue to improve our website and provide better service to all of our customers.

Each feedback will be read and taken into consideration by our business team.

I never look at FAQ's...

...if I have a problem, I'll call them and expect a human that speaks my language to an extent I can understand them, to speak to me and sort it out.
