A friend of mine has acquired a Denon AVR x 3100W amp thingy and was asking about speakers to use in conjunction with it. He really needs to get to a big city (larger than Settle) and ask in Richer Sounds or whatever. In the meantime, are there any snippets of advice I could pass on

A three thousand plus watts amp? Any speakers he wants I suspect? :-)
Only way with speakers to find out which suit you best are to listen to various models over an extended testing sequence using the amp and other equipment (if possible).
