Same here. I have a clear memory of him on the Tonight programme when I was no older than 7. Working it out, he would have been 40 then.

I remember him on Holiday in the early 1980s. The R4 news this morning made specific reference to his combover! I suppose he and Robert Robinson were the daddies of that particular style.

Like Rob and Zero I had the 'thought he died years ago' thing. His son Guy was interviewed on the Today programme this morning. Cliff was still driving to Waitrose until 6 weeks ago and sitting in bed discussing current affairs until earlier this week. Quite a good way to be at 96 I think.

While 'Holiday' was one of my thoughts of him today the main memory is of his fronting the BBC coverage of the Apollo missions - particularly the return of Apollo 13.
