 Telegraph quick crossword - Crankcase
Somebody must be a Telegraph reader? Today's quick crossword three word pun, and we know the answers are correct, are Poe, Goes and Ally. Can't make head or tail of those. Anyone? Pogo...something? Pogues...something?

Help!

What are you supposed to do?

They are an anagram of spelaeology, does that help?

Ah, having just looked up what you are supposed to do, then an anagram is clearly of no assistance. Sorry.

There was a Pogues song Sally Maclennane

A very long shot Pogues Sally?

Are you absolutely sure the answer is correct - what were the clues?

I looked this up on a crossword blog site that I use (Big Dave). They say it's simply the first two words, not the third. So it's Pogos.

I kept trying to make it Tick too.

Their normal rule is that the clues in italics are the ones that count, but if none are italicised then it is the clues in the top row only that count. Clearly a mistake here, at least by their own convention.

But it is often a bit vague, because sometimes little words don't count.

Thanks chaps. I must say if it's just "pogoes" then that's a bit feeble but so be it. At least it's not obvious anyway.

Best one for me was "butter" and "knolls" which took me ages to see, being slow on the uptake generally.

It does say on the Telegraph website...'The first two words ( or sometimes the third and fourth,) make up a pun '

Today's issue confirms that the answer is Pogos.
