Planning and restrictions on housing (Green Belt etc.) succeed in making land and therefore houses more expensive and contributes to the status quo - i.e. high house prices allows greater lending which supports the lenders and the economy as a whole.

Locally, a few thousand acres have been made available via a new link road. All the freed up land is owned by the local and county council. All of it is being sold to large developers. Small builders or individuals who want their own decent sized plot out ruled out.

Trying to build anything outside of the town is near on impossible. It's all about control.

Did the postcode check your area, unsurprisingly 92% farmland for our area and only 2% urban.

Literally thousands of houses have been built in my general area with thousands more planned. It is a drop in an ocean of rural and agricultural land. Pity the schools and medical facilities have not kept up. One sneaky move was to use ten year old population figures to justify downgrading the local A&E.
