"A 45-year-old gendarme volunteered to swap himself for one of the hostages, say reports. He left his mobile phone line open during the operation so police could monitor the situation..."
Presumably this phone was discreetly hidden behind the chap's gigantic gonads.

As you suggest balls of steel. Respect.
|
You have got to commend the GIGN - no worries about what they do - they just get the job done.
3 innocent buystanders lost their lives but for the GIGN it could have been a lot worse.
I am no fan of France or its people but you have to admire the no nonsense approach of most of the police force.
The French Unions can really organise a strike & bring the country to a halt in a matter of hours - inconvenience millions until it is settled.
Do I buy any French products? If there is an alternative source I will buy that instead - definitely avoid French cars, even Japanese cars made in France eg Toyota, Nissan.

>> they just get the job done
The French have the same attitude as the UK forces once hostages are harmed.
Wooden overcoat time.
|
Sadly the officer who swapped places has passed away. RIP Sir.
|
Wonder if the Gendarme had any family, kids and if they think he was a hero.
Tough one to get your head round.
|
Police officers who are killed on duty are always hailed as heroes.
Without diminishing the loss of any such officer, they do not in general intentionally and knowingly take the level of risk that this one did. I would not have been so brave.
I imagine it was in any case contrary to laid down procedure.

He was quite senior, may even have been in local command of the situation.

Equivalent in rank to Superintendent in the UK, so in probability in charge at the scene.
|
Some people go beyond the call of duty.It is in your DNA or not.
|
Just found out that the Colonel was a Freemason.
Much respect brother.

Irritating troll.

And you sir are really not the person to push a good message about your preferred organisation
Have you actually read your message? he was a dead person, NOT a dead mason.
Hypocritical to a tee, and based on your previously admitted dishonesty and outrage when outed, you are probably the very worse image the masons could possibly portray.

Brave, without doubt. Gallant even.
But smart? I'm not so sure. He kind of played into the terrorist's hands a bit, didn't he? Killing a young woman might not have made the terrorist much admired, in any circles, but perhaps getting a policeman killed might, in some.

Dunno, much glory and kudos in executing an unarmed defenceless policeman who in effect martyred himself? Its a bit playing the terrorist at his own game really, with much glory for the forces of good.
Anyway, who knows how theses terrorist peeps thinks
