 Trump & Immigration and vagaries - No FM2R
Prior to The Trump, the US had a policy of arresting people trying to illegally enter the US and charging them with a misdemeanor offense and releasing them pending a future court case to consider their immigration application.

Trump, in his election campaign, stated that he would enforce 'zero tolerance'.

Now, Trump has begun to enforce 'zero tolerance'. Essentially those attempting to enter illegally will be charged with a felony, refused bail and thus their children must be taken into care pending the court case.

So, of course, the media is beating up on Trump.

I don't support Trump in any way at all.

However, surely the first elected official ever to be taking a beating over doing exactly what he said he was going to do.

Wait until he tries to deport an illegal immigrant after an X-Factor audition. Truly an apocalypse in waiting.

Trump shining a light;

This will result in a change in US immigration law or a decrease in illegal immigration.

If the US population is uncomfortable with the mere enforcement of their own laws, then perhaps they should change those laws.

"Under the "zero-tolerance" crackdown that the Trump administration rolled out in May, all border crossers - including first-time offenders - are criminally charged and jailed.

Migrant children are not permitted to be incarcerated with their parents, and are kept in separate facilities maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Under previous US administrations, undocumented immigrants caught crossing the border for the first time tended to be issued with court summonses.

But the Trump administration points out that most of those migrants never showed up for court."
