Living on The World - Lygonos
Having seen it a couple of times, and being berthed behind it in Valetta today, I googled how much it costs to live on the cruise liner "The World".

A 3 bed 3400sq ft condo-suite is around $10m. Doh!

A studio about the size of the kids' playroom is $700k. Double doh!

You have to be able to show a net worth over $5m. Triple doh!

Didn't even bother to see how much monthly costs/meals/etc woyld be....

20 degrees and blue sky - felt like a lovely summer's day in Scotland!

Was nice in Naples, and very much like home in Genoa and Marseilles a few days ago.

Chilling out at sea tomorrow then Barcelona and home Friday.

Always like stopping at Malta - today's the first time I've used the 1€ lift up to the town centre - gaffer point-blank refused to walk up the hill!
Living on The World - martin aston
Well we took self same lift down today as we went for the ferry to the three cities. We had a free unused return lift pass you could have used. Thats another two euros you'll never see again!

I too am a Scot so 2 euros was a matter of shared pain. You calling us "Scotch" just adds salt to the wound.

According to my version of The Oxford English Dictionary:
Scotch: of Scotland or its inhabitants.

Unless you know of an Oxford Scotch Dictionary?

;>)

Living on The World - martin aston
Tom there are indeed many Scots dictionaries. Citing an "English" one to tell a Scot he is wrong to find Scotch a mildly inappropriate archaic term in this context isn't going to win you many friends over the border.

....maybe I'd better "Scots" that then....

I do like a nice Scots Egg.

In this case it is entirely appropriate that a region of people are named after an alcoholic beverage.

It is also entire appropriate that a nation or region of people are named after an undesirable characteristic, habit, or trait.

We had a new train called the Flying Scotchman pass through Basinsgtoke this morning on it's way from Swanage to London.

Lovely looking piece of kit, let's hope South West Trains get more of 'em.

Firstly, it is South west RAILWAYS* but yes, clearly its part of their service, it was short on carriages and failed to stop as scheduled at Brookwood.

*Rumour mill has it the new franchise is in trouble and they may do a stagecoach and walk away from it.

First part of a two leg journey, Swanage > WCR Southall > NRM York. It was only hauling its support coach. Steam locos rarely venture far without them.

Would be interested in a cruise report, pondering next years cruise spring cruise itinerary.

Living on The World - four wheels good...
Remember the old lift well, in the late 60s and early 70s. 3d a go, very rickety but deposited us near the Customs House for the dghajsas (had to look up the spelling) to get back to the ship parked in Grand Harbour.

Quite a challenge after a night in the Gut while being watched by the shore patrol on the shoreside and the Officer of the Watch and Master at Arms on the ship.

The Gut (Straight Street) is now a rather trendy dining destination with a branch of Marks and Spencer

Check out ‘penninecruisers.com’ of Skipton. For only an extra £25 you could take your mutt along. Chug chug chug along the Leeds - Liverpool canal.

Personally I’ll stick to my inflatable kayak and paddle board.

I live next to two of southern Englands premier canals, I have good friends with a 40 foot narrow boat, I worked on a lock for a while, Why on earth would I want to go on a canal holiday in the lands of the heathens.

Yorkshire. Gods own county. You’d be well chuffed.
And you like chuffers

Don't be silly, God only goes there on day trips from Wales.

Understood. I suppose he’s that busy that he can only take 24 hour holidays to places that he appreciates and still can’t believe he created somewhere that brilliant.

Because he can't sell his house and move there permanently?

No, because he's got used to flush toilets and electric lights and doesn't want to live without them anymore.

There's entirely other reasons why he never goes to Basingstoke at all.

I don't think Basingstoke came from that end.

Cesspits and miners lamps don't count.

Absolutely, it's because He has faith in those of us who moved here as missionaries.

Still working on that TnE but someone has to do it. Besides, He's very patient with us and has struggles with his own flock. He's hoping that bigger wellies will help.

>You work for Omnicorp or someone like that, don't you?

I'm a majority shareholder in Omnicorp but my bar bills are gradually reducing that.
