Just heard that Google and Amazon have finally admitted that they do listen into household smart-speakers for 'training purposes' only!

Employees tune into conversations to supposedly improve speech detection.

I'm so pleased I haven't bought into this...

As I understand it this is only if the wake up work is heard, e.g. Alexa.....

Unfortunately other sounds can be mistaken for the work.


What I find really disturbing is that the listeners have heard what they believe to be crimes (sexual assaults and children being hurt).

They have not reported these to the authorities. Should they?

These devices are always prelistening/prerecording, its a technical requirement for the device to work, so stuff is captured prior to the activation word.

No, its the same argument that apple use to refuse to decrypt iPhones. One US police force has managed to get a court order for amazon to release the "prelisten" data where it was evidence in a murder trial.
