Footprints in the snow. What animal made them? - henry k
There is a line of footprints across our lawn. I am curious what made them. I suspect they are fox tracks.

They are in a straight line and each "hole" is about 13 inches from the next.
What looks strange to me is that there is just one line of holes as if made by say a pogo stick rather than sets of four prints.
We have not had deep snow in this part of Surrey and there are plenty of foxes around our general area.(I have a photo taken a while back of one sleeping in the sun on our shed roof.)

probably impossible to tell now. The thaw is set in and it completely distorts any tracks.
13 inches is about the stride of a fox at walk both front and rear, and they do tend to walk "in track" with one paw in front of the other when stalking quietly I would say two paw marks have melted into one to give the pogo effect.

Foxes are known to trot in straight lines and leave a single line of tracks.

You both have confirmed what I suspected - a fox.
The track looked interesting from the bedroom window.
I did not do a close investigation prior to our thaw but did measure the spacing this morning.
Thanks.
