It appears that our local plastic recycling factory is on fire by the plumes of black smoke about a mile away. It stands alone in the Fen so it really can't be anything else.

Just over a year ago the local tyre recycling plant caught fire some 10 miles away and burned for more than 8 weeks.

I do wonder how the green army who condemn polution and want everything recycled justify this common occurence:)

This post is made with humour and not aimed at anyone in particular!

Throw a lorry load of spuds on it and have a party. Plenty of butter mind.

...It appears that our local plastic recycling factory is on fire...

I blame inconsiderate householders who put mixed rubbish in their bins.

The fire was probably started by a rotting parsnip which self-combusted.

Don't, Iffy.

I've just been clearing up an exploded bottle of fermented mango smoothie which the kids left to rot without my knowledge in a door bin in the Sharalahambralaxy.

There's mingin' mango everywhere. :-(

Careful how you use that air freshener.

Spraying Asian children with air freshener is a bit much, but I'm sure a teacher at my old school told a smelly child to have a bath.

You think I'm clicking that?? Dream on!

Ha ha.

The story's done from the angle of a white lad in the class who reckons he was caught in the crossfire.

Gives a new meaning to the word overspray.

We`ve got a local scrappie that has had a few ships to dispose of, one of the most recognised ones was HMS Ajax (frigate) the number of times this caught fire due to "cutting spark etc" was "interesting"! - tis a good way to clear crap and leave clean metal (allegedly)

Why didnt they just knock a hole in the side of the 16 foot drain? That would put it out.

What... and have the tidal wave heading downhill towards our place?? Give us a chance to inflate the zodiac first.

The C5 floats over the road they say, why not the water?

 Pollution by recycling! - Fenlander
>>>The C5 floats...

With wide tyres down to 3-4mm that is a current issue with puddles taken at speed!

Downhill, on the fens? ;>)

Yeah, the fens is like a bath. Fenlander lives on the rim of the plughole. The plug is currently in so could be a problem,

Yep that's why there's a rope ladder up to the taps.

Now that sort of banter/repartee is what makes this place worthwhile; a ray of sunshine after yesterday's bicker.

"The factory is owned by Carl Waters, son-in-law of former Fenland councillor Pop Jolley,"

Why does that raise all sorts of suspicions with me - what's the bet they have the council contract??
 Pollution by recycling! - Pat
I don't think so BobbyG, we collect waste plastic from all over the country (and near you!) to take in there for recycling.

I remember a few years back that supermarkets were not able to recycle their plastic duringone of the "foot and mouth" outbreaks I think it was. No one would take the plastic abroad for fear of there being food residue in it!
