If Tooslow will kindly forgive thread drift.

SoontonotbeEverestPete,

I know you were hoping to get out of windows, so what's the new job to be?

Looking for a new TV? - PeteW
Iffy,
New job is Retail Energy Expert for British Gas. New role, new set up in conjunction with Sainsburys. Since this is going to be a permanent multi-store based role the emphasis is on advice rather than just selling so includes insulation/energy efficiency surveys/maintenance packages etc not just trying to get people to change energy supplier.
Must be serious since I've got a 4 week residential induction and training course first and City and Guilds certificate to gain!

...New role, new set up...

Sounds good, you can make the job your own and there's no historical baggage about how others have done it.

Hope it works out.

Looks like OLED still has a long, long way to go before it reaches domestic consumer pricing, I'm beginning to wonder if it'll ever reach sane price levels.
Looking for a new TV? - Zero
It will, eventually.

With plasma on its way out, LCD in at the lower end, LED at the higher end, OLED will come in at premium, WHEN the panels reach a large enough size.

Good point about screen size, 'normal' screen size seems to have shifted from 32" to 42" over the last couple of years, by the time OLED goes mainstream maybe 50" will be the norm.

Do change the story...:-))

you are on a looser.....

tell me what % of all screens now sold are plasma. Right now. let alone in 12-18 months.

No I tell you what I will tell you.

Plasma now account for 12% of all flat screen TV sales

How many companies still make plasma TVs? I'll let you find out that.

Plasma is dying.

That's what you said almost a year ago....:-))

Panasonic, LG and Samsung....

An extract from this link:

tinyurl.com/644asbp reads:

"Comparing December 2010 to December 2009, 19% more plasma TVs were sold, whlie LCD TV sales shrunk by 13%. This wasn't just down to cost-cutting, either: LCD TV prices fell by almost 15% on average, while plasma TV prices rose by 9.4% as tech-packed premium models tempted buyers."

Personally I'd rather have a Plasma than an LCD, but I do agree with Zero (again) that's it is a dying technology, presumably manufacturers can make more money selling LCDs. The selection of Plasma TVs is dwindling.

Perhaps my CRT set will hold out until the price of these drops.

That's what you said when plasma came out! :-)

The Super AMOLED screen I have is very good indeed. Sadly 4" in diameter. It's on my Samsung phone ;-)

Impressive all the same.
