 Scary Signs - Tooslow
I glimpsed this one in a shop window this morning as I left a car park;

"Kids Special: Buy One Get One Free!!!".

No thanks.

John
 Scary Signs - Zero

I've always thought "Plot For Sale" sounded a bit subversive. Along with the mildly disturbing "Heavy Plant Crossing" of course.

Reminds me of the 'Seaton Canoe' sign put up outside Seaton Carew to poke fun at missing canoeist conman John Darwin.

There's a "Lunt Avenue" in nearby Crewe.....and yes...every Sunday morning it needs to be altered back to its correct signage !

River Hit, Shefford, just north of Luton. They've given up and don't bother with signposting it now.

The last time I saw a sign for that it was carefully shaped, and just big enough to just fit the words on one line each, with no border.

river

Pity Me, Iffy, you weren't in Frankland jail were you?
 Scary Signs - Iffy
...you weren't in Frankland jail were you?...

I've been in, but Just Visiting as they say in Monopoly.

That was the prison where Ian Huntley was recently assaulted.

Closest place to hell on earth I can think of.

Best news i've heard in ages, thanks Iffy.
 Scary Signs - Iffy

Just out of interest....

Frankland is one of only a handful of what the prison service call dispersal prisons, or category A prisons, for the nastiest of men.

All inmates will be serving a minimum of four years, most a lot more, including many lifers.

The other cat A prisons are: Belmarsh, south east London/Kent; Manchester; Full Sutton, near York; Long Lartin, near Evesham, Worcs; Wakefield; Woodhill, Suffolk; and Whitemoor, Cambs; not far from Pat in the Fens.

I think I've got the locations more or less right.

Talking to the governor of Frankland a few months ago, he told me the place is full of Muslim terrorists, many of whom are what we in the North East call workie tickets - they are always pulling some human rights stroke or other.

Mixed in with that lot are the likes of Ian Huntley, Charles Bronson and sundry other murderers, rapists and high-level drugs dealers.

Some of the prisoners are quite elderly, and we often hear of inmates who die in the jail in their sixties or seventies.

Typically, they might have carried out some horrible, but long-forgotten, crime 30 or 40 years ago, but were never paroled for one reason or another.

So long as Huntley and similar are in a form of hell, that's good enough for me...hopefully there's a real hell waiting to welcome them in the fullness of time.
 Scary Signs - Zero
And strangely, the most forbidding of them all, Dartmoor, is now a cat C.

Belmarsh is where they stick all the politicals.

Whitemoor was originally put to the locals as being a Cat C prison and despite some local opposition it got the go ahead.
During the time it was being built, it changed quietly to a Cat A and we could see that was being planned from the building work.

The escape from there was scary, I was living in March then and only a mile from the prison.
There are a lot of us who hear the Police helicopter still to this day, and think it has happened again.

The Woodcock Enquiry makes some interesting reading if anyone is interested.

A good, long standing friend is a retired prison officer from Frankland. His stories are enough to give the faint hearted nightmares.
 Scary Signs - ....
It's a German thing Ted, I live near the rest area Dong.
The sign frequently goes missing.
 Scary Signs - Ted
It seems the signs at Vank also walk....it's a British thing !

Frankland ? Pah...luxury ! I hd to go into Risley a couple of times in the 70s to collect someone for court. It was a remand centre then, some of the inmates were innocent men.
The place was awful. Men in the yard collecting poo parcels which oher inmates had chucked out of the windows in the night !

No wonder it was the suicide capital of HMP at the time.
The staff lived in a kind of ghetto up the road.....a small housing estate surrounded by a high fence with one road into it.

Then again, Pontins at Southport ran it a close second. Our company held a few annual recovery shows for our agents there off season...usually pouring down with a horizontal gale off the sea !

Searching on google images for the Austrian village beginning with "F" and rhyming with "ducking", returns pictures of street signs from Penistone, Intercourse PA and the road in Shepshed which attracts coachloads of American tourists - Butt Hole Lane.

I understand the Austrian village has now invested in a 1 tonne rock engraved with the name, to make it harder for the Brits to steal.

If you have a private plate in Poland you can choose your own letters so if I ever buy a Polish registered car that's what I would have. W----R.

I wonder how the police would react when I drove it to the UK. Probably give me a tug.

Some you will recall the fictional solicitors in Private Eye - Sue, Grabbit and Run? Here is a firm who could have chosen their name better whatever business they are in.

Apart from PU, of course, I think everybody in the legal profession should consider being called Right Hassle
