Whilst looking for an alternative way to get to work, it seemed to me that I needn't spend 800 quid on this:

I followed up one of the links on CC's www.wired page above and got this: the Chinese Gas-Powered Rollerblades a.k.a. Chinese Death Skates. The English subtitles are hilarious!
