 Worst cover versions - Crankcase
We've had lots of good music threads. Time for a really bad cover version thread.

My first candidate is:

www.last.fm/music/Palast+Orchester+mit+Max+Raabe/_/There+Must+Be+An+Angel

You get a 30 second preview for free, and that is possibly 29 seconds more than you need.

Worst cover version you know of is...?

George Michael's recent attempt at New Order's True Faith. Done entirely on a vocoder. Comically awful.

and the brilliant original

The original version is on my funeral list. That one isn't, although if they played it it would be drowned out by the sound of me spinning.

My joint winner would be every cover I've heard of Beatles songs, particularly Yesterday.

Led Zepplin's dreadful cover of the Rolf Harris classic, Stairway To Heaven.

Wonder he didn't sue.

I don't think we're trying.

"every cover I've heard of Beatles songs,"

Most of the originals were tosh though.

Have you heard this one Iffy? I've got it on a Supremes anthology and I quite like it, especially when they switch from unison to harmony. But it's got a good sort of raw groove to it as well.

Where do we start? I won't. It will get me too wound up.

Most annoying is when a great riff from a great song is used in some hip-hop or pop version. Recently, some scum used Valerie by Steve Winwood as a 'base' for a track. Sacrilege.

Anything by William Shatner!

How about the Bilbo Baggins song by Spock? Not a cover, I know, but it shows just how drunk Nimoy used to be!

Paul Young's version of Love Will Tear Us Apart is very bad. He completely took away of all of Joy Division's brilliant music and rifts and replaced it with a bland Casio style 80's one.

I still haven't heard Michael's version of True Faith yet, I am worried it will murder one of my favourite songs.
