Great day at RAF Hendon - TheManWithNoName
As part of his cub scout outing my son and I went along to RAF Hendon yesterday. It wasnt as far away from my home as I thought so the coach trip wasnt too bad.
Entrance was free and it coincided with some Battle of Britain memorial weekend activities. We watched a 'scramble' re-enactment and the highlight for me was meeting Rodney Scrase DFC, one of the remaining 'few' who flew Spitfires. I also managed to nab the last copy of his book from the gift shop and he signed it too. We then watched the RAF band playing underneath the Lancaster bomber and they played the Dambusters March and a few other well known miltary tunes. My son was even allowed to 'conduct' the orchestra. Brought a lump to the throat it did.
The staff were nice, the displays were good even though we only managed to see a fraction of the exhibits and the whole place was a delight to look round. I can't wait to go back. Thoroughly recommended.
