A new door entry system has just been fitted to my block of flats.

The door is now opened by a white plastic swipe card. It doesn't have a visible barcode, magnetic strip or chip.

Does anybody have any idea how it works?

RFID is my guess. Chip does not need to be visible, and is powered by the radio transmission of the interrogating source. Google the four letters for explanations.

My works ID card was one.

Yes - I did a Google image search for 'Mifare' and the card looks exactly like mine
