Neither had I sooty, until my mate in Plymouth sent me the info, but I hail from that era of pot heads you see,
I remember the group (band!) Pentangle and some of their stuff though.

Pentangle! Light flight - was the theme for Take three girls!
Which one of the three did you fancy! I was an Avril fancier. (Angela Down)

Had to Google him, You Tube is not accessible from here.
Remember Pentangle though.
I did the typography for an LP cover of his once.
Jeeeeeeez, that was a long time ago...
who was he? sounds like he wont be missed.
I think more of us may have heard of Graham Dilley. tinyurl.com/5v9xllg
Jeez, he was only a few months older than me.
And so departs one part of the famous cricket scorecard entry:
"Lillee c Willey b Dilley"
Don't overlook "The batsman's Holding - the bowler's Willey" Brian Johnston I think
Mr Jansch got a very long obit on the BBC just before 18:30. Think it was R4 but might have been 5live - was channel hopping.
>> Don't overlook "The batsman's Holding - the bowler's Willey" Brian Johnston I think
Except Diley wasnt in that match,
Yes he was and Amazon sell a book of sporting quotes using this one as the title.

That "quote" came from the 1976 west indies tour of England, 5th match at the oval.
Graham Diley was not playing in that match
Shame he wasn't - we might have been able to bowl them out twice.

No-one has been able to come up with a recording of Brian saying the famous line about holding the batsmans willey, and the thought is it was never said.,

Its a myth, it was never said. Johnston denied saying it,
He would, wouldn't he?It was a bit awkward! It depends which source of information you give credit to. "Although a colleague of Johnston's, Henry Blofeld, recalls the incident occurring during a test match at The Oval in 1976." (Wiki)

Have you ever heard a recording of it?
No. I think there is general agreement that it doesn't exist. Johnston says he didn't say it, Blofeld says he heard him say it. So we shall never know, or care, one way or the other. End of.

If it happened on live radio then presumably there would be a tape - even if only an illicit one. The 'legover' one is aired pretty frequently.
I recall the commentary team talking about this alleged incident a few years after it was supposed to have happened.
The impression I formed was that several in the box at that time thought it didn't happen, but none were certain if it did or did not.
