What's the difference between a podiatrist/chiropodist and a foot health practitioner? I subscribe to a health plan which will pay for podiatry/chiropody, but the person I visit is a foot health practitioner and I'm not sure whether I can claim or not. I've asked for clarification of what expenses are claimable but as yet I've not got the information.

Podiatrist

"The scope of practice of UK podiatrists on registration after obtaining a degree in podiatry includes the use and supply of some prescription only medicines, injection therapy"

I would guess a foot health practitioner is not qualified or allowed by law to do that kind of stuff.

How your insurance company treats either i guess is variable by circumstances.

Podiatrist and Chiropodist are regulated by the Health Professions Council and their job titles have protected status.

Really must turn the heat up above 15 degrees in here....fingers don't work in the cold.

It's Meldrews fault;)

It's minus 10 degrees this morning and at 3.10am I gave up because the cat had pinched all the duvet and he's too heavy for me to pull it up when he's laid on it.

He can open the bedroom door and if we wedge it closed he sits and howls all night.

Anyone with a Siames will know how loud that is.

Note to self: Put cat's on a diet.

Nothing like as loud as Burmese. We have had both but not, thank goodness, at the same time.

We used to breed Siamese.
If you have ever heard the call of a female (queen) Siamese cat in heat you will understand the meaning of "eldritch"!

If your health scheme is HSA/Simplyhealth they will generally pay out if the practitioner is a member of the HPA. Let's face it, why would you go to anyone who isn't?
Podiatrist versus foot health practitioner - L'escargot
>> If your health scheme is HSA/Simplyhealth ..........

It's Simplyhealth.

>> they will generally pay out if the practitioner is
>> a member of the HPA.

According to her business card her qualifications are ....... DipCFHP, MPSPract., RN. Will they be sufficient?
Podiatrist versus foot health practitioner - Telb
I don't know the answer to that one I'm afraid. I emailed them about our local podiatrist and they just said if he's HPA registered it's okay. Since ours is, I didn't pursue it any further and they've been paying me for a few years now.
Sorry I can't help more

Your practitioner does not hold any Podiatry qualifications so you would not be allowed to claim. The title "Foot Health practitioner" is not a Protected Title and can be used by anyone regardless of training levels.
The training that these practitioners have ranges from none to 12 modules of distance learning followed by 14 days practical. This contrasts very sharply with the 3 years of full-time study and some 1,200 supervised clinical hours required for a Podiatry degree.
Foot Health Practitioners are not Regulated by Statute, so the public has no protection in the event of a poor treatment outcome. As they are not on any national register they cannot be struck off or disciplined for poor performance.
For more information see :- www.hpc-uk.org which gives information about how Podiatrists are regulated.

Hello,
I am in private practice but I am not a sole trader.
Podiatry is my speciality, I don't claim to know anything much about cars ! ;-0

There are plenty of people on here who think they know about cars, but in reality know nutting!

Just out of curiosity, have you been a reader of this forum for long, or did someone point you at this thread?
