Can anyone tell me please where files I download are stored?

I infrequently download files which join a list and I can then open that file. If I want to see that file again I have to download it again and then the download list opens and I can see the previously downloaded file.

I presume I could find the download list somewhere, but I've searched in vain.

Depends on the operating system, etc. and how you've set it up.

If it's Windows 7 for example it will possibly be in:

c:\users\username\downloads

If it was XP then instead of users it would be Document and Settings.

;-) Just as when asking a technical question about cars, it helps to know the make, model, etc.; some relevant computer details:

In this case, please tell us your operating system and web browser.

The web browser usually has default settings for downloads etc., and if you wish, you can overwrite the default location where you want your downloads to be stored.

Sorry, the site seemed to go down.

I'm on Vista home basic and use Firefox.

I've looked in c:usersusernamedownloads. Not there.

I don't seem to have Document and Settings. Somewhere in control panel perhaps?

I think you are right. I had a problem logging on myself.

default Firefox downloads location has changed depending on the FF version. You don't say which version FF you are on, but to find your default Firefox downloads location:

In latest version of Firefox (13), do this:

Top line menu - click Tools and select "options"

On the general tab (first one), about 1/2 way down, you see the options for 'downloads'.

Where it says, 'Save files to' it tells you in abbreviated form what is set, and if you select 'browse' on the far right of the window, you see more details and can change it if you want.

Don't think the method of finding and selecting has changed for a while.

DOH!

I'm on version 12.0 (I didn't update to 13 as IIRC it doesn't support AVG).

If I click on the orange Firefox rectangle in the top LH corner, there's a downloads option (Ctrl+j) that gives me what I want. It doesn't say where they're located though.

Ah, I've selected the "kill the nanny" options and I forgot the top line menu vanishes.

The link I gave states:
" ... setting can be changed in the Options window - General panel "

If you need help finding the General panel:

In FF go to Tools > downloads - this will list your downloads, single left then right click on any download, select 'open containing folder' and it will open the folder where the downloaded file is.

Thanks for that.

Users/username/AppData/Local/Temp

I'd never have found it in a month of Sundays.

If that's where it currently downloads to I'd change it to somewhere else.
