 3D design software - movilogo
Expecting 3D printer to become affordable in next few years time, I'm just trying to be ahead of the herd and invest some time (not money) in learning 3D design in my leisure time.

Obviously I'm not going to do this in professional capacity.

I understand most 3D printers require models in STL files and so I need something which can produce this.

Searching on the web, I find that following free software can do this.

123D from Autodesk
TinkerCAD (free a/c is very limited)

Surprisingly, Google's SketchUP needs a plug in to export in STL format.

Is there any other free yet capable applications?

I heard Blender is good but has a very steep learning curve.

So which one do you recommend?

I've used 123D a bit, not something you can pick up in five minutes but does the job, like most complex software you need to use it regularly to maintain familiarity.
