Java Problem with Google Chrome - Pat
I can't see a website that was posted yesterday in the "pulling a caravan" thread
www.car4play.com/forum/post/index.htm?t=17035

apparently my security settings are blocking Java.

Does anyone know how to change this please?

Pat

moved and re-titled.

you need to update Java, its blocked because its out of date (and potentially unsafe)

Mine updated yesterday, but I get the same as Pat (in Chrome).

I've just updated Java and uninstalled the older version too but I still can't view it and get the same message. I've noticed recently there have been a couple of webcams I can't view either and I miss them.

I'm on IE11.

Any chance of moving these four posts into the computer forum please?

I spent most of yesterday Googling this and trying various things with no success at all.

I finally got that working by setting the site as an exception in the Java configuration. Look for Java in Start/Programs.

That was one of the things I wanted to try yesterday but when I get to that section and it says 'click to add...', it is greyed out and won't allow me to click or add anything.

Without wishing to extend this diversion too far in this thread, Pat, have you given thought to the idea of ditching java entirely? It's a bit of software that is vulnerable to attack and needs to be kept bang up to date to reduce the risk at all times. And fewer sites use it these days.

Have a google for "should I get rid of Java" or similar to see the chatter. Certainly for me and our place, we ditched java a long time ago. The few sites that I come across that require it you can either not bother with or use another browser just for those sites and nothing else if you must.

It's not at all intuitive. You have to click the add button first.

Having used Google Chrome for a few days, I must say that I hated it. I'm glad to have gone back to using IE again.

I suppose I should make it clear I use IE11 and have the problem with that which is still not solved.

I suppose I can do without it but I do miss the Looe pier webcam which won't work without it so I'd like to get it sorted.

Is it this one Pat?

www.looe.co.uk/webcam/webcam.htm

If it is, then it is working on my iPad, which doesn't have java.

If it isn't, then at least it's another Looe webcam for you.

Nice one, Crankcase. Might look at that B&B for a few days later on this year.

Excellent Trip Advisor score, too.

I use both of those but it's this one I can't get to work.

www.gullshotel.co.uk/webcam-gulls-hotel-looe.htm

It's an excellent one because you can move the camera around and zoom right on things.

Foolishly I upated Java on the big PC which uses Firefox and it's now not working right. Keeps seeking permission and although it could be a result of the Avast antivirus, it doesn't look like it. I'll fiddle with things later.

As said earlier though, not many websites now use it.

Works ok with Safari, although the clock on the webcam seems to be over an hour slow.
