To be honest in the past I've occasionally(on impulse) downloaded certain tunes that either I can't find in shops,or need in a hurry, all i use is the free version of Audacity, and youtube.

Use a good YouTube downloader and you can find and download dozens of albums in MP3 or format convertible form - just search, for example, for "The Best Of...." and add the name of an artiste or band. An example:
