Pin hole on front face of CD/DVD writer - L'escargot
What's the function of the pin hole on the front face of my computer's CD/DVD writer, near the top left of the insert/release button?

Emergency release.
you insert a paperclip or some such, which releases the door.

Indeedy, and often required in the days when CD's often had printed paper labels - oh, how we'd laugh if we saw one of them today.

Just like the one I'm using to upload some maps to a satnav right now - had to revert to the old standby pc as the laptop wont read it and I'm not risking the Windows 7 pc...........

It's where I poke a straightened-out paperclip in whilst pressing the eject button for the first time in the day... Mine ejects every time after needing a prod the first time - the modern equivalent of the choke perhaps?
