If you have a home server-what does it do for you - diddy1234
Just thought if anyone on here has a home server.

If so what services / apps does it host for you ?

For me it stores all of my music, films, recorded TV
My server also hosts its own web page and I can listen to my music anywhere (since i wrote my own PHP script to embed into a web page).

Over wifi and Lan connections I can stream TV (from the inbuilt TV card).
View over the web server recorded TV and films.

Web server also hosts some flash games to keep my little one amused.

So what does your web server do ?

Mine contains all the music/videos/photos, mostly to serve the TV and the Stereo.

Dont need a tv card, everything is streamed from the net.

No web server here. 2Gb Western Digital network drive to hold and share multimedia files (music, video, photos) and so family can easily backup their machines. Also have a small footprint PC under the telly so we can watch and listen to stuff on the lounge gear (HD to TV, optical to home theatre for audio).

I once set up a web server on the drive but couldn't find a use for it so disabled it.

Absolutely, no need for it, not with web enabled TVs

I use PS3 Media Server to link up with the TV for photos etc and an Ethernet cable from the router to the TV for BBCiPlayer and other web items.

No home server here though the TV is wireless to the router as is the Blueray player and PS3 plus four PC's on the network sharing drives, one wired plus three wireless and a wireless printer, not to mention a few iPods, and a couple of phones plus the work laptop.
