Which is quicker, Bluetooth or WiFi? - SimonB
I'm thinking of buying a tablet, most probably with Android 2.2 or 2.3. For the few times I'll need phone connectivity, it's not worth my buying one with 3G capability, I'll use my phone, a Samsung Z500, as a modem with bluetooth connection. However, my phone's getting on a bit (as am I) and I've been looking at new models, specifically a LG Optimus One, which is advertised as being its own wi-fi hotspot.
Does anybody know whether wi-fi (b,g) or bluetooth is faster, whether either is fast enough to go on Skype, for example and generally, would I be better off getting a tablet with a built in sim card?
Thanks for your help,

SimonB

wifi is faster than Bluetooth by a long way.

From personal experience WiFi running at 12 Mbps or above should be OK for Skype (assuming video)

As already said, WiFi is a lot faster than Bluetooth. But when using the connection to access the Internet from a mobile on a 3G connection it might not matter so much.

From experience, a 3G connection for video conference connections is not going to be that great performance wise. But my opinion would be the same for a tablet with it's own 3G/GSM modem.

Apart from someone not releasing it yet, I wonder when someone will implement the necessary USB host drivers for an Android tablet to accept a USB dongle?

My Android phone can act as a WiFi hotspot. And it can allow connections as a modem for data using Bluetooth or USB. My comments above about 3G connections stands.

Ask yourself where/when you will really need connectivity? For my mobile data plan I have more than enough data but I also have access to BT Openzone and BTFON hotspots included with my home broadband as part of the BT broadband package.

Your blutooth connection from phone to tablet will be as fast as the average speed you get from your phone to net via 3g.

Wifi is easier to set up tho.
