Didcot Cooling Towers Demolition - VxFan
The 3 remaining cooling towers were blown up this morning at around 7am.

And subsequently left up to 49,000 people without electricity after debris from the explosion took out nearby overhead power lines. Apparently that was more exciting for some than the towers coming down.

Some people are glad to see them go. Personally I'm not as they've been a local landmark my whole lifetime. You always knew you were nearly home after a day out when the towers come into view. I guess more ruddy homes will take its place, as if we don't have enough being built already in Didcot and other local areas!!

I certainly never saw them as an eyesore, and there was certainly something to the idea that you knew you were nearly home, but they're no great loss.

As life goes on day after day so the landmarks of our younger lives disappear:

Odd they should go this weekend. I'm off down there on Thursday and had considered their presence as a landmark on the way down...
