Somehow a London to Brighton Vintage Rally car ended up on the M23, resulting in a fatal accident

Very sad.

I used to live on the route near Horley and would watch every year. I never saw any actual incidents but it was always a bit hairy as the roads are not closed so modern and old traffic mixes and cars jostle for position. Speed is not the issue, it's closeness and dubious braking capability of the entrants that made me since a few times.

AIUI, last year's fatal accident involved a car that only had a transmission brake between the engine and clutch. The driver failed to engage a lower gear at the top of a hill and tried to change down going down the hill. Pressed the clutch, but couldn't get it into gear. With the clutch pressed they had no brakes!

This year, it involved a very rich foreigner off route. It's been suggested they were trying to 'steal a march' on other entrants by using the M23. It's not a race, but there's a great deal of competition between entrants.

I wonder if it's a case of not fully understanding their cars and our road system.

As soon as I read that I knew, just knew, that the guy was an orphan, a million years old, an alien or something.

Too obscure for me, I'm afraid.

Was it? Oh God I hope Mutley was OK.

Here's a question, did Mutley copy Precious Pupp's laugh?

I always thought it must be the same voice actor.

Just a case of parallel evolution it seems.

Precious Pupp was voiced but Don Messick and Muttley by Joe Alaskey

Hanna Barbera cartoon factory was a great believer in re-use of product. Plot, scenes, soundtracks, - anything

Sad indeed.

If it was a 1903 car it would be veteran, not vintage. Sloppy BBC reporting.
