lads and lasses...

strikes me that if things were getting as bad 'over there' as I'm beginning to believe, retribution may be made against those who have made the transfer list. If you see what I mean.

I wouldn't mind keeping a foot in both camps to see what happens- no disrespect to the efforts of those who've put this together, of course.

So, as a precaution, I've changed my handle. And I think it would be prudent if you all did the same.

Feel free to disagree with me of course.
 Handles - RattleandSmoke
The people running this site may well be but the rest of us members we are allowed to join any forum we like. Also the person that told me about this site had my email address anyway for reasons outside of the forum.

I really cannot see how this site dosn't anything wrong. If people want to change their name then they are entitled to but I don't think people need to it because they are worried they will get into some sort of trouble.

 Handles - -
Don't see why playing with someone else should upset the originals, surely we're all too grown up and long in the tooth to worry about such things.

meself i'll still be a regular on HJ unless i get chucked off for being a boring old so and so...(didn't want to test any possible swear filter there).
 Handles - Aaron C. Rescue
Hmmm...okay. But, although I've never met any of you, I have a warm regard for many and would not want to see anyone fall foul of a tyrannical overlord.

Maybe I'm being a bit pessimistic. Ignore this post!
 Handles - -
Rattle and Smoke....you've ruined my tease by the sly name change, how can i misprint Rattie every time i answer now, Rattie and Smoke just don't do it...bah humbug..;)
 Handles - Old Navy
If I get binned from the other place its their loss. Not that anyone would notice anyway. :))))
 Handles - RattleandSmoke
If its anything like the HIFI club it will remain seperate from the other site, there is no point on being a clone as it just won't work. A slightly different moderation style is probably all that is needed to make it different.

And agree if any of us do get banned for being on here it is thier loss.

My name changed just seemed more suitable given the current circumstances! Maybe my next username could be "waitingfortheAA".

Evening all.

I'm rather pleased with my handle. I might even start using it at 'the other place'.

 Handles - Zero
Isnt that the name of long thin ciggies that girls used to smoke in the 70's?
 Handles - Subariquet
That was Sobranie. I was a Galouises and Disque Bleu chap - although they never did quite seem to have the ability at parties to turn me into Bryan Ferry that I thought they would.
 Handles - Zero
A pack of Marloboro, fliped open by a driving gloved hand was as cool as you get
 Handles - Subariquet
Driving gloves at parties? People must have thought the Alvin Stardust tribute act had turned up.
 Handles - Zero
no the real thing my little coocachoo
 Handles - Ted
Nice handle Sub. I notice it contains the making of the word ' Subaru '....hint?
I've changed mine as well, although I did once post under this name on the ' other place '...only once ! I just fancied a change after all this time !
I will keep my old name for them.
 Handles - Runfer D'Hills
This is all terribly exciting. Cloaks, daggers and everything. Tee hee.....
 Handles - rtj70
I am lucky I can work out who some of you are on here - I can see email addresses. Tee hee. :-)

Lets all try to enjoy the name place and leave any bad feeling behind.

welshy (a new mod)
 Handles - Zero
you'll be selling details to advertisers next, like that other wlesh place.
 Handles - Crankcase
Bounced over all bush eyed and brightly tailed from the Other Place, and changed my name.

Otherwise you might realise who I am and then in the morning there'll be nothing but tumbleweed and whispers of "who the heck told him about all this?"

Nice to see you all.
 Handles - BobbyG
That reminds me, must help my daughter with her English essay :)
 Handles - R.P.
Not saying who I was just yet !
 Handles - Dave_
>> Not saying who I was just yet !

Nor me, although one or two of you may guess fairly quickly.

Glad to see this, I did wonder if something like it may happen...
 Handles - Bellboy
im in discreet incognito
but boy does it smell
 Handles - Dave_
Not hard to work out who you are OG ;-)

Wonder if the swear filter is the same? I'm too polite to try it, new gaff and all that...

Yep works the same as far as I can see.
 Handles - Zero
I see that a little bit of open warfare broke out between the mods and the site publisher in the other place.

 Handles - Fenlander
Yep I noticed that. Interesting to see *the management* telling mods to toe the line as if paid staff... given the generous effort put in by freebie mods that's a bit rich.
 Handles - Zero
I think that's how they feel about it too

It lists the mods in the other place's "Welcome" sticky as:

Moderators:
TBC
moderators@theotherplace.co.uk

And nothing more!

Maybe it's not coming back?

Remains to be seen I would think

Hondadriver - Site Moderator..(seeing as I've edited Zero's posting and my buttons actually work)

The forum generates lots and lots of the same users coming back to the site each day where as the other site probably attracts causual users here today gone tomorrow. I would have thought it was vital.

The problem is they have cocked it up badly and I really get the impression they have employed a bunch off inexperienced up starts but that is just my opinion and it probably ins't the case.

Anybody can write a forum, I could write a simple forum in an hour or so but after a few hours all the bugs will become apparant and it will probably get hacked via SQL injection or something. It seems they have done the same thing, rushed into making a copy but not finished it or tested it properly.

It is no easy task to write a forum as featured as this site and the old site was and it is the result of many years of fine tuning.

I respect that it is a hard thing to copy one forum and remake it using a completly different technology and I respect it was never going to work first time properly but the communication with mods and users have been poor.

This forum will get up and running more quickly if everyone uses their old forum name.

Which is what I've decided to do.

I'll use a new name on the other place, if it starts again, if I feel like posting there again, and if there's any aggro with using my current name.

Which I would hope there wouldn't be.

 Handles - Pat
I am proud to stand up and be counted and will be pda or Pat wherever I post.

I'm amazed that so many have chosen to hide who they were and really can't see why.
It is confusing and must be a 'man thing'!!

What is it you're hiding and more to the point why?

I can fully understand the originators and the mods but for the rest of us, whats with the reluctance to be identified?

Pat

I was going to change my handle on the other place as well to this one. Just never go round to it. Thats the problem when you start off with a specific car in your handle - it gets outdated.
 Handles - Dave_
>> if everyone uses their old forum name.

>> so many have chosen to hide who they were and really can't see why

After some thought overnight I agree. Can't see the point in being all cloak-and-dagger, it's a free world and all that.
 Handles - Crankcase
My reason is the same as Zero's - got sick and tired of the old name and just didn't get to change it, so took this opportunity. Don't worry, it won't make my postings any more interesting or anything.
 Handles - Pat
Well for those of you who just wanted a change of handle you could always post your old one here to save any confusion!

Pat
 Handles - Zero
I thought you girls could multitask?

Thats what you keep telling us.
 Handles - Crankcase
Fair enough Pat - after searching long and hard for a car related name Over There that reflects a certain idiocy and bumblingness I chose a similar one for this place. There I am Dipstick.
 Handles - Iffy
Dipstick has 'you plonker, Rodney' connotations, so I think you are better off with Crankcase.

 Handles - Aaron C. Rescue
You're probably right (as usual) Pat- in a former life I was theterranaut.

Just stood up to be counted. "I'm not a number, I am a free man!"

 Handles - Subariquet
I am Dipstick.

(You know, like Spartacus, oh never mind...)
 Handles - Ted
No ! I'm Dipstick !

OK then, if we're being outed.....1400Ted

No imagination. :-)

Hello All

Must admit to being disappointed with the delay in getting the other places forum up and running and I wasn't so keen on the changes anyway. It was by far the best forum I have used - so hopefully this one will be as well.
 Handles - Mapmaker
So far as I can see, there has been a "liberation" of IP. I wonder....

I do wonder about copyright too (forum format), but the copyright may have always resided with the developer.

IP - software wise - always stays with the developer of software *unless* specifically ecluded and subsequently paid for.

The whole of idea of developing IP is to be able to reuse it and offset development cost.
 Handles - car4play
absolutely.
 Handles - rtj70
This forum runs on software available to anyone to buy services I guess. That is why it was developed. So the IPR for the forum belongs to the developer.

Maybe some backroomers used to exchange emails once in a while and the message has spread? Who knows. But no point in speculating.
 Handles - RichardW
Nope, mine didn't change either....!
 Handles - Runfer D'Hills
I was quite enjoying being slightly mysterious. Some think they have rumbled me but are they correct..........?

;-)
 Handles - Subariquet
You are Humph Backbridge and I claim my five pounds
 Handles - Runfer D'Hills
Sure about that ?

;-)
 Handles - R.P.
Humph - If I recall correctly there's a hump back bridge followed by a roundabout as you come into Crewe from the West ?
 Handles - Runfer D'Hills
Couldn't say.
 Handles - spamcan61
I'd just like to say hello

Hello

thankyou.

 Handles - Runfer D'Hills
Hello spamcan. There will be snow in Moscow at Easter.
 Handles - Fursty Ferret
No, I am Spartacus.

Isn't this just a temporary thing? And does anyone know why the HJ forum went all funky and broken?
 Handles - Iffy
"Let's have a relaunch and put those awkward beggars in the Back Room at the bottom of the 'to do' list," is how I read it.

 Handles - spamcan61
>> No I am Spartacus.
>>
>> Isn't this just a temporary thing?
I don't think that's the intention, although seeing the 'Backroom' forum format replicated 100% here is somewhat surreal.

And does anyone know why the HJ forum went
>> all funky and broken?
>>

'cos its been changed over to a completely different type of system software which is a bit broke at the moment, this often seems to happen to busy sites which migrate to a new provider / software.
 Handles - rtj70
I'm Spartacus! The intention is this isn't temporary. No connection to HJ at all. The other site is still under development and will be back. Will you?
 Handles - -
I AM Spartacus and i will be here and there, unwanted unbidden.
 Handles - Zero
Its amazing how we differ.

I would have pointed to the bloke next to me and said "HE is spartacus"
 Handles - rtj70
>> I would have pointed to the bloke next to me and said "HE is spartacus"

I bet they never thought of that. :-)
 Handles - Iffy
I think the film Spartacus is the one in which Kirk Douglas, as a centurion, can be seen wearing wrist watch.

That wouldn't have been so bad, but it didn't even have Roman numerals. :)
 Handles - Hugo
Do you think anyone's noticed who I am?

Stealth is me.

Who's Sparticus?
 Handles - Runfer D'Hills
We've got a Spartacus at the bottom of our road. It used to have a post office too but they shut that.
 Handles - rtj70
Is that near the roundabout and the hump back bridge?
 Handles - Runfer D'Hills
Wish I could do unto you wot you done unto me...........

;-)
 Handles - Mapmaker
>> Wish I could do unto you wot you done unto me...........

That's an ugly sentiment.
 Handles - Ted
I'm not sure but I think it was a wrist sundial, Iffy.
