Help. Every link I now click takes me to the c4p welcome page. I kid you not.

iPad for info.

Just on the iPad?

I can't think why that could be, but if nobody smarter comes along im a day or so I'll charge up my daughter's iPad and see if I can work it out.

P.s. I assume that you're using both at home? If so, what happens with the phone if you turn off WiFi and use 3/4G? Any different?

If you click on a link on this site it does redirect via this website. The links aren't the URL for the website you want to go to.

So the link is this website with redirect.php? appended and then the https URL for the actual site. So it seems your iPad and iPhone are not following the redirect. Have you tried a different browser?

Yep. Works on safari. Why the issue on google then?

Open the Settings app, and scroll down to the fifth group of options (with Mail at the top). Tap Safari.
Scroll down again and tap 'Clear History and Website Data'.
Tap 'Clear History and Data'

Didn’t work Squire.

Even links to YouTube redirect to the c4p welcome page!

You've been owned!!

Try a hard reboot of the iPad.

i.e. press and hold the home and power button down until the Apple logo appears.

No go Dave unfortunately.

I have been messing around with an iPad and I cannot replicate this at all.

One shot in the dark though; Have you turned on or change the settings protecting you from malware and phishing sites? I think it's in advanced settings, but I haven't used Chrome in a long time.

I ask because part of that functionality is to block redirects.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - smokie
Has this ever worked? I am not a IOS user but I just read something which says links will always open in Safari unless you o ==go through a convoluted procedure.

Anyway - no surprise it does the same on the phone if sync is turned on.

Have you updated Chrome from the IOS store? Always worth a try.

If you have then try

Open Chrome and Tap More More and then Settings.
Tap Privacy and then Clear Browsing Data.
I'd select the lot then tap Clear Browsing Data.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
Where does one open ‘Chrome’?

The inside of computers are not my thing. I use google for c4p as I do for all other browsing/searching. Lots of stuff then opens automatically in safari, but I don’t use it by choice.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
No Mark. I haven’t altered anything.

Just FYI (for the tech minded)

I migrated the car4play server a couple of days ago to Centos 7 and Php 7.1 (from 6, php 5.4)

Had to fix a few bits of code to get it to be happy with php7.

Also moved from Apache/Nginx proxy web server to Nginx with php-fpm.

The original session handler didn’t like it he move so your using the built in one now. That would have logged you out when it switched.

If a browser keeps redirecting to another location no matter what you do it’s usually because at some point it got a permanent redirect 301 to that page. The browser then doesn’t care what the server then changes to it if links are corrected etc. It just ‘thinks’ that you those links need to go to redirect page.

You have to clear the browser cache for this site and restart the browser completely to fix it.

On the desktop a restart browser often seems to be enough. Also hard refresh the page. Eg on desktop there is a force refresh option. (Eg option plus click refresh)

Edit.

It’s too early....
Just remembered I didn’t actually make the server switch in the end because some other hosted sites couldn’t run under php7 and they are on the same IP.
I had just switched on my local machine to check etc. So the code got updated to be compatible but the server hasn’t.

Thanks - just for clarity, the significant bit of your post for MD (AIUI) is

"You have to clear the browser cache for this site and restart the browser completely to fix it.

"On the desktop a restart browser often seems to be enough. Also hard refresh the page. Eg on desktop there is a force refresh option. (Eg option plus click refresh)"

I’ve cleared the google cache and done a hard restart (on the phone) having already done it on the iPad. It’s still the same issue!
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - Zero
One problem you have is that for the same issue to happen on iphone and ipad, is your settings are being replicated on icloud.

So rightaway turn off cloud on both devices.

Then try and fix one device.

Is this happening on wifi or over the phone data network

Try installing google chrome on your pad and phone, use that instead of the built in safari.

If it happens on chrome, tell us what your DNS settings are.

What home page do you have set on your browser

Slight digress but I thought on an ipad / iphone you cannot change from safari to chrome when you click on links ie it will only ever automatically open in safari?
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
I think I said before that google or safari that the sane happens. That’s the case anyway.

You said earlier that it's fine when using Safari.

Yes I apologise that’s an error. Fine on safari, but not on google et al.

Why not just the default browser?

Another thing to try is to delete the Google App and reinstall it again.

My suspicion is that this a problem arising from not following the gospel according to Apple and trying to mix an I-device with a product of the heretic Google.

Microsoft and Android are less picky about your partners.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - VxFan
Brompt,

I've several different browsers on my iPad and iPhone.

Google, Puffin, & Aloha for instance.

They all work fine, and all used for different purposes. Puffin for example for flash content stuff.

Tried it on a different (red) browser. Still not playing ball.

Also done a software update all to no avail. Mmmmmm!
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - car4play
If it’s doing the same across all browsers it sounds like your connection is proxied.
Have you tried it on a different internet connection ?
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - smokie
Did you try Mark's suggestion of turning off WiFi and connecting using your SIM and seeing if it is still a problem?
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
Not yet. Tomoz perhaps. It’s been a long day.

Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
I ditched and then reloaded google and it all works just fine. Thanks to all.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
It now doesn’t work fine. It’s back to paying up again..
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - VxFan
Did you clear the cache out and any other dead wood before reinstalling it?

I'm sure it's mentioned further up by Zero how to do it.

Why can't you just use the default browser, Safari?

I think he uninstalled 'Google' (I assume Chrome is what he's using) and re-installed and it worked. Now it isn't.

Is that accurate MD?
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
I uninstalled Google and re-installed it and it worked fine.

I also installed Google Chrome. That worked fine.

Google Chrome still works, but Google has reverted to playing up again. I’m just interested to know why.

>> but Google has reverted to playing up again. I’m just interested to know why.

For the 2nd time, Did you clear the cache out and any other dead wood before reinstalling it?

Maybe, just maybe, Google left behind some residual files after being uninstalled which are still corrupting it.

And seeing as you still haven't answered my question "why can't you just use the default browser, Safari?" I shan't ask again ;)
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
Yes I did clear the cache.

I don’t like safari. There I said it. :-)
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - VxFan
uninstall it again.

Clear the cache etc.

Reboot the phone/tablet by pressing the home and power button at the same time until the Apple logo appears.

Then reinstall the Google App again.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
I’m on it.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
All done and it’s working, but it did before for a while. Watch this space.
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - MD
Google has reverted back again. Google Chrome fine.

Why aren't you just using Chrome? Surely you're not searching this website every time you access it???
Links on C4P not redirecting correctly - VxFan
Try asking the question on one of the Apple forums.

It’s back! Even on Chrome. Grrrrr.

I’ll ask Apple.
