My daughter and her housemates are all junior doctors.
In A&E a couple of weeks ago, one of her housemates was attacked by a drunk patient who ripped her scrubs and tried to sexually assault her.
A quick stamp on the offenders foot and knee to the groin soon put a stop to his attack but she has been suspended whilst the investigation takes place.
The patient did need surgery on the kneed area as serious bleeding occurred.
Initially the police weren't interested in the attack by the patient, one did ask if the level of defense was appropriate given the attacker needed surgery!!!! The patient was arrested after he recovered from surgery.
Rather than go through the meetings and hearings having to defend her actions in protecting herself, she has just resigned and has been offered a position at a medical recruitment company, earning an salary in excess of what she is currently getting for less hours!
Luckily Miss Z has only had a few run-ins with difficult patients or their relatives including threats of violence but nothing to the level of her friend. She does get fed up with some of the older male patients and their antics and suggests bromide should be automatically added to their drips!
