Interesting.

I just put a 20 squid note in my HP Envy 7134

Interesting thing happened. Do you own experiments, put the results here and I'll tell you what mine did

Brother MFC-J6530DW set to colour copy. First try blank paper came out. Second try it printed the first inch it had scanned of a £20 note.

I know I have done copied notes successfully before on other printers so this was a surprise.

Is this how you intend paying for your private surgery? I must try it on my Epson Workforce; I've still got one or two bits and pieces that need sorting out.

By the letter of the law it is an offence to copy money. Obviously producing counterfeit money is illegal but also a simple photocopy is. B of E own the copyright.

When photocopiers were first introduced to the office ('70s?) some wag tried copying pound notes. The results were frighteningly convincing, even though they were only B&W. They could easily have been accepted in poor light.

They will copy perfectly in B&W. Now try it in colour.

Not so much.

Like manatee, my printer did about and inch of the note, and the rest of the page was blank, as were subsequent copies. In high res it refused to even pass pass paper through the path. Even in B&W

I wonder who mandates the software security, and how the regulations are enforced on UK stock.

Only governments get away with "Quantitative Easing" it seems.

But works the other way around with yellow highlighter pens.

The yellow doesn't show up in B & W, but does in colour.

My Canon has just done a perfect colour copy of a £20 note.....the printer was bought and registered here in Austria. Didn't try a euro note.
 copying money - Zero
Try a euro note, if it is censored it proves the software is country specific.

I have just tried to copy Rand notes ( all I can find ) on my Canon printer. Perfect copies.
Of course it might know they are not worth copying :-)

IIRC In the past it spat out blanks for UK notes.
Just tried again. Still blanks.

I've been busy copying Venezuelan Bolívars for the last few weeks. I've worn out four printers and I've almost made enough to buy a box of matches.
 copying money - tyrednemotional
...that sounds like a load of Bolivars to me.....

€5 note copied perfectly as well. So perhaps it's not country specific.

Sounds like yours has no protection of any kind

Do you think copiers are capable of keeping a record attempts at copying money? Would that be possible?

Why? How many have you made now?

Or are you asking for a friend?

I have just tried it with a £10 and a £5. It worked fine. (This is the printer Zero told me not to buy!) All the detail is there. If I can do the other side and get them lined up properly, I should make

IF they have recognition software to check for it, then yes they can and probably do. Mine is also on an ink plan, so reports back from time to time, so its also possible that I could be remotely grassed up - highly unlikely tho.

.....the big Brother printers do that, though.....

You may remember from old detective films that the cops were able to tell what typewriter was used by a crook.

The now do the same with laser printers (and probably inkjets too).

They deposit a series of dots on the page that records the serial number of the printer. I wouldn't be surprised if internet collected printers report more back.
