I don't know about you, but I often hear people complaining about the cost of main dealer servicing, so perhaps the following might redress the balance slightly
My car (an A4 2.0T) is just coming up to 3 years old and so in need of an MOT in a few weeks. It should also have the brake fluid changed at 3 years and, as its done 40k miles, the pollen filter replaced. The car doesn't actually need a service for another 4,000 miles (its on the variable service schedule)
My local Audi dealer quoted £50 for the MOT and £49 for the brake fluid change. I forgot to ask about the pollen filter but, based on the cost for our A3 last month, I think it's around £20.
However I asked about having the service done early because I can't really be bothered with the hassle of having it MOT'ed, then serviced a few months later. The cost for that? The service is £129, and if done at the same time the MOT is free. The brake fluid is still £49, and they'll throw in the pollen filter for free.
So for £178 I get a service, an MOT, new pollen filter and brake fluid, a main dealer stamp, the car collected from home, cleaned and reurned. Now I realise that the 'service' is no more than an oil change and a whole list of checks, but I thought that was good value!
Or...have I just spent money getting the car serviced early...
