The free trial provides two weeks of the Premium version which is always on and provides an automatic scanning facility, etc. If one reverts to the free version after the two weeks trial, this is a more limited program and doesn't provide real time protection - just a manual scanning/removal facility
I have the Premium version on a lifetime licence - no renewal/renewal fee.
