Janice Dunlop, a Good Samaritan whose car was destroyed by emergency services after she allowed two crash survivors to shelter in it, has been given a replacement car by Vauxhall.

The emergency services cut the roof off Mrs Dunlop's car (below) to free two motorists who had been recovering after their own car collided with an HGV on the A27 in West Sussex earlier this week. Paramedics spent two hours trying to remove the man and the woman, who could no longer move due to neck pains, from the Vauxhall Vectra.

Vauxhall reports that there were doubts about whether Mrs Dunlop's insurance company would pay out to replace the car, and so stepped in with 56-plate Vectra. Mrs Dunlop, who has previously owned three Vectras, two Astras and one Cavalier, was presented with the car by Picador Chandlers Ford dealership in Eastleigh, Hampshire, which is part of Vauxhall's Network Q used car programme.

"We're delighted that Network Q stepped in and provided us with a replacement Vectra," said Mrs Dunlop. "Our family loves Vauxhall and the previous Vectra was the most reliable car we ever had. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Network Q for replacing our car."
