Shamed entertainer Rolf Harris is forking out hundreds of thousands of pounds on a crack team of lawyers in the hope of securing an early release from prison.

The pervert former children's TV host was jailed for five years and nine months in 2014 for indecent assaults against four girls, aged as young as seven.

However, the 85-year-old is hoping to overturn his sentence - despite more alleged victims coming forward.

He has hired an expensive group of lawyers who he hopes can secure his freedom and prevent him from spending any longer behind bars.

A source told The Sun: 'Rolf is willing to spend every penny of his fortune to try and get out.

'[He] is telling associates he believes he can potentially see victory in an appeal.'

Harris was convicted of 12 indecent assaults on June 30, 2014 - one on an seven-year-old autograph hunter, two on girls in their early teens and a catalogue of abuse of his daughter's friend over 16 years.

During the trial, Harris, a family favourite for decades, was finally unmasked as a predator who was fixated with under-age girls.

He was jailed for five years and nine months for the sex abuse, meaning that he is due to serve just under three years for the crimes.

It was recently reported he has made £76,000 while in jail through an investment firm he was formerly a director of.

Company accounts show RHE Investments Ltd saw its assets increase by £76,604 from £7,170,293 to £7,246,843. The company is half owned by Harris and his wife, Alwen, and the other half by family trusts.

The trusts are likely to be tax efficient structures.

They show Harris was advanced £1,055,454 from the company last year. He has so far paid back only £432,695. He resigned as a director of the firm on September 29 this year.

His wife is currently listed as secretary, while brother Bruce and niece Jennifer and still directors.
