A driver was attacked with a machete as he waited at traffic lights in Essex.

The 37-year-old man from Benfleet sustained cuts to his hand and minor injuries to his arm in the attack in Hadleigh at about 20:15 GMT on Friday.

He was waiting in his car at the junction of Scrub Lane and Rectory Road when a man knocked on his car window and demanded he get out.

Police said an "altercation" followed, after which the man was able to drive away, leaving the suspect at the scene.

The suspect is described as white with a large or stocky build and was wearing a T-shirt.

Anyone who witnessed the attack is asked to contact Southend CID or Crimestoppers.
