A woman has died in a car crash after driving the wrong way on the M5.

Police said the woman, thought to be in her late 20s or early 30s, started driving in the wrong direction on the southbound carriageway from Weston-super-Mare towards Clevedon.

The crash happened at about 00:30 BST when the woman's blue Ford Ka collided with two vehicles and was also hit by two others.

The motorway was shut between junctions 19 and 21 but has since reopened.

Police are investigating and officers want any witnesses to the crash to get in touch.
