London 2012: Resurfacing for the Olympics road race

Preparations for the Olympic cycle road race are set to begin as resurfacing work is scheduled at a Surrey tourist attraction.

The Zig Zag road at Boxhill will be closed between 07:00 and 19:00 BST from 23 April.

Diversions will be put in place and the work is due to be completed on 1 May.

The work will including laying a new road surface through the National Trust owned section to provide a uniform surface for the Olympic riders.

The work will be undertaken between the Old London Road junction and the Smith and Western Restaurant.

Access to the National Trust visitors' centre and car park will be via the diversion, Surrey County Council said.

Four cycling events will pass through Surrey on 28 and 29 July and 1 August.

The county is jointly hosting the men's and women's road races and two time trials.

The Olympic torch relay is also visiting towns and villages in Surrey, with the final overnight stop in Guildford on 20 July before the torch enters London.
