Maps of UKIP, Labour, Tory, Greens and Lib Dem support

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has achieved his ambition of coming first in the European elections in the UK. Support for UKIP and the other parties was not spread evenly across the UK, however, as these maps show.

UKIP won 27.5% of the vote, up 11 percentage points on 2009 and giving it 24 seats in the European Parliament.

Labour came narrowly ahead of the Conservatives in a race for second place and saw its vote share increase to 25.4% across Britain, while the Tories fell back slightly to 23.9%.

The Liberal Democrats suffered a serious electoral setback, being beaten into fifth place on 6.9% behind the Greens on 7.9%.

Northern Ireland is not included as it has a different voting system from the rest of the UK in these elections.
