Reconstruction of Costa Concordia crash

At least 16 people died after the Costa Concordia cruise ship ran aground with more than 4,000 passengers and crew on 13 January, only hours after leaving the Italian port of Civitavecchia.

Although the investigation into what caused the crash has not been completed, Dutch software firm QPS used the Concordia's own navigation data to create a reconstruction of the incident.

This animation of the last 18 minutes of the vessel's voyage has been speeded up to run six times faster than real time events.
