I wouldn't use one myself. I would feel too self concious and if pedestrians are as much of a problem as he says they are for him then I have to wonder how much time he is going to be spending repacking and resetting his butterfly. It could easily double his commute time.
I have an ond fasioned bell on my bike which seems to work pretty well and is fairly innoffensive.
