Just purchased my first house and hopefully if everything goes to plan ill be have keys at end of september. Whilst my mrs is sorting the boring stuff im sorting my garage.

Its going to be a bikey garage, with half for bike storage (motor and push) and half as a area to work on bikes/cars etc.

What shall i use for the floor?

It needs to be hard wearing, easy to clean, and not cost loads. PVC or rubber Tiles seem the best option but cost £2.50 a square foot and that would be too expensive if ive worked it out correct.

area is 30ft x 25ft

I've had tin of Safety Blue floor paint sat in shed for nearly a year...

I'm unsure of what prep the dirty concrete floor requires before painting.

Any ideas folks? Will probably help OP also.

I painted a garage a few years ago and within 1 year the paint had cracked off. Looked a right mess.

I considered using normal tiles but they may crack if something dropped on them? and also may be slippy?

B&Q carpet tiles.

Much nicer when you work on the bike. Cheap and if you don't stick them down you can spill stuff on them and just remove and replaced the soiled carpet tiles.

I like the carpet tiles idea. How much a sqft are they? PVC are £2.50 so £1875 in total which is far far too much.

Use floor sealant first, or the paint peels off.
We found this out and have a lovely cellar floor, but a tatty garage as we didn't seal that.

Dependant on two things
- the type of floor paint you are using
- if the floor has been exposed to contaminants, like oil for instance

If the floor is sound you can paint straight after sweeping/hovering dust off if using a normal acylic garage floor paint

As an aside, I would personally only ever use a 2 pack floor paint

I'd of thought some form of sealant would be required (PVA?) but again I've not done it so am also unsure. But it's one of those jobs worth doing right or it will look st and just peel off in no time...

That's a good sized garage.
My garage is 5m x 7m and I used proper interlocking garage floor tiles cost me about £400.00 and it has proved to be exactly what I needed. Had to cut very few to get a wall to wall fit and if I move will take them with me.

If there are any carpet tile manufacturers near you they generally have shops selling seconds.

Stuff that may be discoloured, or slightly off square, but still good enough to lay.

EDIT - or put 'carpet tile seconds' in ebay.

EDIT2 - If you want some waterproof membrane paint to put underneath, send me a PM.

Some good ideas. Ill see if our local carpet place can help. PVC tiles are my first choice but cost is too much. Unless i do half the garage pvc and half carpet?Cant buy anything yet so got a month to decide which way to go.

B&Q will be about £750 for OP's garage (£22.98 pack cover 2.5sq metres).

They have a lot of offers though and bank hol discounts - I got mine a lot cheaper.

There are cheaper commercial places too.
