Mayors from four towns took part in a charity kart race organised by Westbury mayor David Windess at Castle Combe racetrack.

The race was the second organised by Cllr Windess in his time as mayor, raising funds for his chosen charities Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Diabetes UK.

The endurance test, held from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday, had teams of drivers competing to finish as many laps as possible.

Among contenders were Bradford on Avon mayor Peter Leach, Frome mayor Nick White and Calne mayor Glenis Ansell, as well as teams from local pubs and businesses.

Cllr Windess said: “It was a very enjoyable event, although it was very wet and cold. We managed to raise about £320 in total, which will be split between the charities evenly.

“The team from Rygor Commercials’ Salisbury branch won and the team from the Crown Inn did very well.

“It was one of my last events as mayor, and we managed to raise £2,300 for my two charities over the year, which has been good.”
