The Grand Tour season four has been confirmed officially by Amazon, so we can finally put all those cancellation rumours to bed.

It may be a long way off, but here's everything we know about season four so far.

Seasons one and two each launched towards the end of their respective years, while The Grand Tour season three (2019) was pushed back and given a January air date.

Because of this, we expected the new series to land sometime between December 2019 and January 2020... and we weren't wrong.

The first of season four's special episodes, Seamen, will air on Amazon Prime on December 13.

The Grand Tour season 4 studio: Will there be any big changes?

Yes. Along with the confirmation that Grand Tour has a bright future on Amazon, announcements were made about some pretty big format changes that spell a completely different feel for the show.

Grand Tour 4 will be made up of a series of specials, ditching the famous tent in favour of "big adventure road trips that fans around the world love". The first, set on the Mekong River in Vietnam and Cambodia, will eschew four-wheeled travel in favour of boats. Who knows, it might even try to make amends to all south-east Asians for Jeremy Clarkson's racist joke to Richard Hammond in their earlier Burma adventure. We can but hope.

The team bid farewell to its studio segment recently (April 12), and Jeremy Clarkson admitted that he got quite emotional about the whole thing. "Yeah, I'm an emotional old sausage," Clarkson told The Sun. "I like having a studio audience, but I'm getting old now. So life will be a bit easier just doing the specials."

On top of these new Grand Tour specials, Clarkson, Hammond and May are all going to start producing individual shows for Amazon based on their own interests.

Richard Hammond has already announced a solo project away from his co-hosts. The presenter will be flying solo for Richard Hammond's Big on the Discovery Channel, which will see him explore some impressive feats of engineering.

James May will be taking on a solo project for Amazon, fronting a new show titled Our Man In... Japan. The six-part series, announced in March, will see James travel to Japan "on a quest to understand the unique, extraordinary and complex country" — despite not speaking the language or being that clued up on its customs.

We'll keep you posted on other individual shows, as and when.

Previous seasons have included between 11 and 13 episodes, so we first assumed that the new season would follow a similar route.

However, executive producer Andy Wilman has since revealed that we should expect only two episodes each year from now on.

Speaking to Freddy Clode on the Home & Hosed podcast, Wilman said: "Basically at the minute it's a bit loose. We give them to Amazon and they put them out when they want to. This one at the minute is an hour and three quarters. It was two hours and a quarter when I did my first cut."

Understandably, fans aren't too happy about this huge reduction in content.

The Grand Tour season 4 locations: Where will it be filmed?

With the new format promising "big adventure road trips", the possibilities seem endless.

As with previous series, there's sure to be some hints along the way – and we've already been given a glimpse of these locations via social media.

Back in November, Clarkson revealed on Twitter that he and the cast were "marooned" after a problem with the filming equipment affected their lane.

"We elected to fly on the cargo plane with the kit and it broke. Now we're marooned on a tropical island with nothing but a car and wine," he wrote, clearly distraught over what happened.

Seems rough. While we pray for their immediate rescue, remember to bookmark this page for all the latest updates and information about The Grand Tour season four.
