A Brit had to be reassured Hamas was not invading her village when she saw paragliders flying over her home and panicked she was under attack.

The woman reached out on social media when she saw a number of hobbyists on the aircrafts, similar to those used by the group’s members in the attack of a festival in Israel which killed hundreds of people when they flew over the heavily fortified border. She was reassured when a number of people replied to her post to say it was unlikely Hamas had turned its attention on her home in Armthorpe, near Doncaster.

She wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter : “Whoever thought it was funny to parasail over the village, it was in extremely poor taste. Take your twisted hatred somewhere else. There was two parachutes with engines like Hamas used at that festival, gave me a fright. Thought it was some kind of scare tactic or protest.”

Hamas carried out the unprecedented attack on Israel at daybreak on Saturday, October 10, firing thousands of rockets and engaging in gunbattle on the street. Today's outbreak happened practically 50 years to the day of the 1973 War. Residents were shocked to see Hamas fighters using motorised paragliders to get over the border from Gaza into Israel.

Today, Iran 's Supreme Leader issued a chilling threat to the US and said it "must be held responsible" over the bombardment of Gaza . Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei tweeted: "Our numerous intelligence reports show that the US is formulating the Zionist regime’s current policy, and what is being done is governed by US policymaking. The US must be held responsible for this situation."

His statement comes after Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian warned of “pre-emptive action” over the attacks on the territory, where there are mounting fears of a humanitarian disaster. He also referred to the “resistance front” - a clear reference to Iranian proxies Hezbollah.

More than one million Palestinians have fled their homes, and 60% are now in the approximately eight-mile area south of the evacuation zone, the UN said. Aid workers warned that the territory was near complete collapse with ever-decreasing supplies of water and medicine and with power running out at hospitals. Meanwhile, a British teenager's family has confirmed she was among those murdered by Hamas during its attack on Israel. Yahel, 13, was killed along with her mum Lianne, while her sister Noiya, 16, and father are still missing.
