Ford Focus III - Engine cover removal - L'escargot
I'm dying to know what the top of my car's engine looks like, but so far I haven't been able to see how to get the plastic cover off. I'll have to ask the dealer the next time I'm passing them. Unless, off course, someone on here knows how to do it ~ it's a 2013 1.6 EcoBoost Focus.

Different engine but..... on my 2.0 TDCI it just pulled off, there were three pins with a bulbous top on the engine and rubber sockets on the underside of the cover.

Trying to check if it has actually got an engine then.

It's a Ford - just wait for 24 hours out of warranty and it will fall off :)

- probably taking it off voids the warranty anyway:(

Never seen one that didn't just pull off. They usually have plastic "prongs" on the underside of the cover that push through and are held by rubber grommets. Or some variation on this theme.

Prepare to be disappointed though. Modern engines look rubbish, which is one of the reasons they hide them under plastic covers.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

What he said, they just pull off and they look terrible underneath, loads of pipes and wires, no nice sculpted rocker cover.

And a pound to a penny that at least one of the prongs will break off as you remove the cover.

So how do garages do it without causing damage?

They dont!

First time the punter discovers the missing prongs is when he gets inquisitive after the warranty has expired.

Probably does not have to removed for a service anyway:)

Same as undertrays - probably find half the fixings missing after 3 years.

The pins locating my Focus engine cover were steel.

They don't have to take it off till the plugs need changing, about 60k miles at the earliest.

The engine cover in our Golf Mk4 comes off a couple of times a year, and nothing has snapped yet (it's 11 years old). Same with my erstwhile Galaxy. I shall be a little circumspect first time with the Laguna......

Bobby's seat doesn't have one.....

The Lancer doesn't have one either, but as it has a proper rocker cover with logo on that you can wipe an oily rag over.

Same here Z, you can change the plugs in 5 minutes flat.

Which one. My work PC didn't pick it up when I posted them, nor is my home PC.

Work PC using Sophos.
2 x Home PC's using MSE & AVG.

It came up with the "luxedb" earlier;seems OK now.

Yes, that was the one. MSE just picked it up, but didn't earlier, nor did Sophos or AGV.

Have now removed the luxedb link from my earlier post.

My MSE picked up Trojan:JS/IframeRef.K Alert level severe.

I used the "Report message" to let whoever know what it was.

I don't know which link in the post it was, I opened all of them but did not go back to see which one it was.

Thin my engine must be one of the last without an engine cover. Although the massive air filter housing covers most of it, that lifts up to reveal a rather nice shiny rocker cover.

I remember me and my mate removed the rocker cover on his old 1.0 MK3 Fiesta, we dropped one of the nuts down the drain which resulted in a leaking cover ever since. Was fascinating to see inside the actual engine though, although you can really see in that engine is valves and tappets.
