Woman drives over man's head after pub dispute - Zero

A woman was handed a 10-month jail sentence after boozing it, jumping behind the wheel and running over a person's head in the pub car park.

Ratcliff decided to return to the scene to drive over the victim's legs before speeding off again.

The unnamed victim is said to now suffer from headaches since the incident, spends less time socialising in pubs and is fearful of cars.

I can understand where he is coming from, but its good to see it didn't put him off pubs completely.

Superbly parked tables. Clearly no Polish bar staff there.

cf. She pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm, dangerous driving, attempting to pervert the course of justice and driving with excess alcohol.

Can't have done her car's suspension much good either.

I have personally driven over someones leg. Hardly felt it in the car tbh, and no lasting harm came to my victim. In discussion with the ambulance staff ( I called them) he admitted to having consumed nearly a full bottle of Vodka and insisted on being allowed to make his own way home.

Is it me, or does that appear to be an incredibly lenient sentence?

Lenient charges I'd suggest - ABH rather than GBH or even attempted murder?

It does but I suspect the press report is too short to capture the full detail.

It seems that way to me.

Triangulating from 5 years for causing death by dangerous - without intent - deliberately running someone over who could well have been killed seems at least on a par.

As another benchmark, compare using a knife to wound someone with using a car as a weapon to do the same thing. Looking at this, 4 years might have been nearer the mark, subject to factors I have overlookedor possibly unreported.

But she wasn't convicted of GBH.

The greatest offence was perverting the course of justice, which I believe carries a higher sentence than dangerous driving (DD max is 2 yrs iirc)

Looking at the guidelines it seems PTCOJ is also a 2yr max. (although Archer got 4 yrs, upheld on appeal)

As you say, the charge might have been inappropriate. Certainly looks that way from here.

I wonder what the sentence would have been if it was the man who'd driven over the woman?
