>>I use an electrical scanner to work out the depth of the paint work to 1/1000th of an inch.
He then goes on to say he'll polish about 3 microns off.
Would you trust someone who talks in measurements he doesn't appear to understand?
How thick would the paint coats on a modern car be?

Stu kept this side of the valetting game quiet, he does vanish quite regularly that'll be business class flights to where the real dosh is then.

If only. I find myself in a never ending spiral working in the social circles of the landed gentry and their minnions.
Its not all bad because they wouldnt lower themselves to a clean at Tesco so they can be relied upon, but still, they dont spend really big on anything unless you can stick a jockey on it and make some money.
I happen to think this kind of valeting is just a little bit vulgar and somewhat pointless really. Still, if your foolish enough to buy a car for so much money, I guess your equally foolish in the other ways one can throw it away. Good luck to the guy who does the work though, I couldnt keep a straight face asking that much.

Modern paint finishes are around 120-150 microns thick (at least that's what was quoted on that ultimate detailer guy that keeps buying Vauxhalls and posting it on the web).

Remind me please, how many microns in a thou? ;>)
I think he's trying to confuse the punters.

It's been posted before in another places, but here's a reminder of how truly mental some people are!

The term micron is obsolete. The correct term is micrometre.
