Their components are far simpler - just a motor which is not as complicated as petrol/diesel engines. Transmission is also supposed to far simpler (no gearbox as constant torque at any RPM).

Yet, electric cars are more expensive than their fuel burning counterparts.

Is it because major cost factor is battery? If so, is the battery actually cost that much to manufacture or inflated due to patent/royalty?
